I work in an office seven floors up in the Trizec towers in Marina del Rey, and every day I can see the traffic streaming down Lincoln Blvd - getting thicker and thicker by the month.
Playa Vista is growing by leaps and bounds, and the more people it takes in, the more businesses it sets up, the more rooftop penthouses its developers use to fatten their wallets - the more traffic will clog Lincoln.
My wife and I moved out of Venice a couple of years ago, just as it was starting to get bad - 25MPH most days in all lanes from Rose on down to Jefferson, whether we liked it or not. I realize Route 1 is a main drag on the west coast (parallel to Route 1 on the east coast) but it wouldn't be the clusterfuck it is today if not for the greed of the Playa Vista developers.
And we're dealing with a scaled-down version - just imagine what it would be like if it had been built out to full capacity, with the Dreamworks studio and all phases of residential/commercial.
I'm ranting here.
The real question we have to ask ourselves is - how far are we willing to go *this time* to protect what's left of the Ballona Wetlands? That's the only key to stopping further development there. We did a piss-poor job the first time around in stopping Playa Vista from being built. The least we can do for this last tiny slice of undeveloped coast is to try to protect what's left.
