JimHahn.org: Back on life support.
Ah-HA: Signs of life at JimHahn.org.

Gone are the three-year-old press-releases touting the mayor's work to defeat Valley secession, the photos from the campaign trail, and a host of other stuff that's still sort-of viewable here.

In its place - that winning message used in times of ill-preparedness by lame web producers everywhere, "This site is currently under construction." It falls directly beneath an old graphic header that still says "Los Angeles Mayor-Elect."
MEDIA
In the race for Web supremacy in the Los Angeles mayoral campaign, it's pretty clear who's ahead at the moment - as far as manipulating the medium to its fullest - and who's running to be booted out of office for inactivity:

From the top, my picks from best to worst:

Bob Hertzberg - He's actively soliciting voter input on his blog, which he actually manages to keep current; he's going after Hahn directly; his site is chock-full of media including printable campaign posters;

And as BoifromTroy sagely points out, Hertzberg has been sucking up to local bloggers and manipulating the medium like a pro:
First, the candidate launched a Blog--but not your typical campaign blog...he's writing it and leaves comments on other blogs. Way cool, and a good way to get favorable consideration from the bloggers out there.

Second, Hertzberg bought blog ads on a number of political/local sites and linked to them from his campaign site. In addition to gaining goodwill among bloggers, this also makes his campaign look far more ubiquitous among the blogosphere--especially to people visiting his site.

Third, and this is my favorite, Hertzberg has bought google ads so when someone searches for Antonio Villaraigosa or Bernard Parks or Jim Hahn, theHertzberg website appears. Villaraigosa's camp calls it a "just another cheap, dirty trick" in the LA Times, but I think it is fair, saavy, internet marketing.
I tend to agree. Hertzberg has the Web audience well-wired at the moment, and has raised the bar oh, about 30 meters for his competitors in the Web arena.

Contrast Hertzberg with these guys:

Walter Moore maintains a fairly busy speaking schedule page, complete with updates, such as the 8/3 one noting that his plan to speak on "Deporting Illegal Aliens Upon Release From Jail" was "POSTPONED BY SUPERVISORS WITHOUT NOTICE." He's pulled together a loose assortment of position papers into an actual Moore's platform. And he's worked up an email tree and other ways you can Help in Four Minutes for Free.

Antonio Villaraigosa, Hahn's (at this point, in my inexpert opinion) strongest rival in meatspace, finally let the other shoe drop on his will-he-won't-he candidacy - and then left it there. As far as Villaraigosa's web site is concerned, it's still last week. His "blog" is still deader than Badwater, CA and his Press Gallery is full of week-old salutations on his decision to enter the race. Zzzzzz.

Not far behind is Richard Alarcon, who put up an extremely slick site - which he then completely abandoned: Sure, somebody's pasting in links to the Times and Daily News every time he gets in a zinger at Hahn's expense, but the press release and AlaBLOG pages are a hollow joke.

Bernard Parks appears to be enjoying his nap. His frames-driven site, devoid of all but the most rudimentary contact info and biography, seems to have been a-slumber since, oh, about June 17, according to the "last updated" note in one page footer. There's no clue as to what the disgruntled former chief stands for, what he will do if we're dumb enough to elect him, or why we should even consider voting for him at all.

But he still offers more information than JimHahn.org. Keep us bookmarked for further developments ...
