(Something I posted at the WELL earlier today)
To Boxer, Feinstein, Waxman, Harman and the Democrats left in Congress:
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Do not acquiesce to any GOP legislation that hurts people of any kind anywhere without a full wringing-out of the facts. Do not believe any hype, whether spewed by the Rove machine or "unnamed sources" in the New York Times or Washington Post. Do not take a single vote without knowing the facts. Do not *miss* a single vote, no matter how hopeless your chances of winning.
Do not forget who put you there, and do not forget that we put you there in a time when lying on the Hill and in the media was a sort of winked-at practice rather than Established Policy ...

Do not forget that dissent is healthy and necessary for any functioning democracy, and it's your job to stand up and scream blue murder when something's wrong.
Do not forget that virtually HALF THE COUNTRY and the bulk of *your* constituents did not vote for the current administration or its policies of ruinous manifest destiny and fiscal recklessness.
Do not forget that we are your base, we've got your back, and we expect you to fight tooth and f*cking nail on everything, no matter what your critics or the goons on the other side of the aisle say.
Do not forget that you're the party of Tip O'Neill and George McGovern, of Mo Udall and Adlai Stevenson, of Harry Truman and Jack Kennedy and Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and Franklin Delano By God Roosevelt.
Do not forget that you speak for the recent immigrants and the middle class and the working poor and the conscientious rich, and the mentally ill and the children and the disenfranchised - and especially the non-white-male majority of this country.
Do not sanction any infringement on constitutional rights at home, nor any illegal military action on foreign soil, ever.
Do not sanction the willy-nilly spending of money, the rape or even diddling of the environment or the thumbing of our national nose at the globe on nothing more than "America, F*ck Yeah" principles.
Do not let a single Supreme Court justice appointment go underscrutinized or poorly contested. Fight, filibuster and fight some more.
And for god's sake, would one of you get off his lazy *ss and refuse to sit down until an independent counsel is appointed to give this whole Iraq war thing a proper inquiry and prosecution? Seriously, folks, you've rolled over like lovesick puppies at the sight of a big, fatherly hand lately and it's making me wonder if you've forgotten the heinous reaming our party took five years ago over a few bl*wjobs.
Don't forget that a global crime was committed in your name and ours, and the people who perpetrated it are still not only free, but running the country.
Most important, don't forget who you are and why we need you. You're Democrats, goddamn it. Don't forget us.
With fondness and fear,
mack
