As the mayoral candidates gear up to argue L.A.'s future tonight (7 p.m. on NBC-4 and LA36), they might want to sharpen some of their best sound bites for two more prime time debates just scheduled for February:
The face-offs, sponsored by the Alliance of Neighborhood Councils, are set for Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. on KCAL 9; and Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. on KCBS 2.
No indication yet whether the ANC will use the League of Women Voters criteria for admitting candidates to the debate, as NBC did for tonight's showdown. But Neighborhood Council reps may be tickled by the idea that they'll have a chance to ask questions directly of the mayoral hopefuls:
From the Alliance's bulletin:
These debates will be only opportunity the candidates will have to face a true cross section of neighborhood stakeholders from across the entire city.
A limited number of Neighborhood Council representatives will be able to directly question the candidates. Each candidate will answer the question, then the moderators from Channels 2 and 9 will have an opportunity to direct follow-ups. The questions will be chosen from questions submitted by the Board Members and stakeholders of the 83 certified Neighborhood Councils throughout the city and the three forming NC's that are being tracked by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment.
Here's the way we'll do it:
In order to be fair and represent a cross section of the City, each Neighborhood Council will be allotted seven seats for each of the two
events. The President/Chair of each NC will be responsible for submitting a list of authorized attendees to the Alliance prior to January 15th. Each NC is free to determine how they wish to allocate their seats. Presidents are encouraged to contact our area representatives listed below. Potential questions from NC's or NC stakeholders to the Candidates should also be forwarded by the Presidents/Chairs in a similar manner.
