The Hollywood Sign is protected by high chain-link fence and, supposedly, a phalanx of web-cams watching for would-be vandals, suicides and other culture-spoilers.
So you've gotta love the audacity of a French artist who cements mosaic-tile pictures of Space Invader aliens onto public edifices, and has placed 100 around Los Angeles since 1999 - including six on the Hollywood Sign.
This map purports to show the locations of every one of Invader's stealthy "installations" (he seems especially fond of Park LaBrea and Melrose) ...

Since 1999, he's slapped up hundreds of invader mosaics in Paris, New York, Manchester, Perth, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Lyon and a half-dozen other cities and produced elaborate maps of each invasion.
Not-too coincidental to this latest spotting (courtesy of blogging.la), Invader is opening a show of sculptures made of Rubik's Cubes at sixspace on June 11.
