L.A. Street Art: Scoping the Stickerbombers

I just added Memo Pisa el Lodo to our blogroll - the guy's she's doing a nice job of documenting L.A. Street Art - and it got me wondering about 20MG, BuffMonster and the rest of the sticker/poster brigade.

I did a little digging around and found this Time Mag photo essay with pointers to 20, Buff and others like Tiki Jay One, Branded and Shepard Fairey.

Initially, I resented 20MG plastering giant pills all over the utility boxes around Silver Lake - mostly because they looked like shit when people tried to remove them (what is that adhesive made of?) ...

But something softened in me, I guess - the street would be a lot duller without the stickerbombers and stuff like the Culver City trompe l'oeil) - plus, it's a damn sight more beautiful than straightup gang tags.

Or is it just rank vandalism, as the nannyheads would have us believe?

On the other hand, you gotta feel for the poor L.A. Bureau of Public Works dudes forced to scrape the stuff off and paint over it on a regular basis ...

(Hat tip to LACityNerd for the MemoPisa pointer)
