LA Pride: Where are the iconic Los Angeles children's books?

I grew up in New York, and my mother was a children's book editor, so I was never short of reading matter. Don't ask me to retrace the tortured logic, but it was seeing a bit about the film Hoot* that got me to wondering: where is the iconic Los Angeles children's book? New York has The Cricket in Times Square and Eloise (for starters); Paris has Anatole. Is there a Los Angeles equivalent? Weigh in at will... * OK, Hoot reminded me of Tucker's Countryside, George Selden's sequel to *The Cricket in Times Square*. maybe not so convoluted after all.
