According to the Daily Breeze, the County has launched a new site, LACountyHelps.org, in an effort to make getting people the help they need ...

I took it for a test spin, just to see how it works. It's actually not bad, with both an English and Spanish portal, and links to contact information, program descriptions and information on how to get the services one needs.
The interface is simple, but effective, using large fonts, color coding and simple organization to get across the information.
Its real strength, though, appears to be its Pre-Screener. This section allows the user to anonymously enter some basic family and financial information, after which it presents a list of available County services that the user's criteria appears to meet, including descriptions, contact information and maps.
It's simple and the resulting table is easy to follow. It's a bit tedious if there's a lot of information to put in (I entered information as an unemployed single mother with 9 disabled children and 4 deadbeat roommates), but in all it's pretty easy.
How useful and helpful this will ultimately prove to be remains to be seen, but I have to applaud any effort to get this kind of information out through as many avenues as possible.
