Blogs Away: LAVoice.org Is Back in Business

(via LAFD Flickr pool
Well, we're back, and feeling a little like the L.A. firefighter here. Chugging along - but just barely. (Gory details of our misadventures are available upon request).

My deepest thanks to the indomitable Boogah, who jumped in on his off-hours from Dreamhost to answer the "URGENT" trouble ticket I filed with 'em eight hours earlier, LAVoice.org finally has most of its oars back in the water. If anything's still awry, just let me know.

Meantime, Post away! and check out a few of the things we missed:
MEDIA
Caption Contest:
LAFD blogger Brian Humphrey points us to a delightful snap of a dutiful firefighter who is now probably trying to break into the photographer's locker to put Icy Hot in his underwear. 18 captions submitted so far.

Meanwhile, the department really is busy, logging 2,006 responses a day for the months of April, May and June. Here are the 20 busiest firehouses ...

Fumble!
Should Councilman Bernard Parks really have been holding a 4 p.m. "Monday Night Football viewing party" in the City Hall Media Room while the rest of the world was contemplating 9/11/01, L.A. City Nerd wonders. Uh, no, unless he was wooing NFL team prospects for L.A. At least that would have been merely tacky, not inappropriate use of city funds to boot.

Not Easy Being Green:
Curbed L.A. wonders how many of the 25 hydrogen/gasoline-powered hybrid luxury cars that BMW ships to the U.S. will be snapped up by green-trendy Hollywood types.

I wonder how many hydrogen-pumping stations BMW can really field in California - and will they commit to building out the infrastructure to make the technology viable instead of a one-time pipe dream or just a really, really cushy white elephant, the next doomed EV-1

Yep, She's a Hoax:
Lonelygirl15 is not an innocent high-school-aged vlogger, but a 19-year-old actress whose character was made up by a trio of twenty-something filmmakers who are now repped by CAA. That sound you hear is a thousand teenaged hearts breaking. Or a good imitation thereof.

Hacks 'n' Hackers: Politics as Usual:
BoifromTroy gloats over blogverse speculation that the L.A. Times got the tape of Gov. Schwarzenegger being his usual boorish self from hackers. The Times 'fesses (sort of) that it got the tapes from the Angelides campaign which, claimed it, uh, downloaded the clip from the governor's own website. Sans password. Attempts by the blogosphere to sort facts from truth here will be regarded as the equivalent of a cataclysmic slugfest between good and evil, while the rest of the world will ignore it for the flea circus it is and vote for Schwarzenegger again (if they bother to vote at all) 'cause he was really good as the Terminator - despite his lackluster record.

Not Mexican Enough:
LAist's Christine Ziemba finds the Mexican restaurants on Olvera Street lacking. Safe money says go for the carne tampiquena, scaldingly-fresh tortillas and killer margaritas at the thoroughly bulletproof Paco's Tacos. And no mariachis yelling in your ear. For that experience, I'd rather be hunkered down with a bottle of good tequila and non-stop lobster somewhere in Puerto Nuevo
