Here's what was reported missing over the weekend:
- The waggish, if brutally true mock street sign "ACLU CRACK HAVEN" that someone had posted on Wilton St. in Skid Row. Eric Richardson says the sign was there Thursday, but someone removed it. Too bad. As Eric points out, the ACLU - in its legally-correct but socially inappropriate desire to protect the sidewalk-sleeping rights of addicted and mentally ill homeless people, has hamstrung any LAPD efforts to force people out of Skid Row's open drug market and into housing and care.
- Japanese photographer Go Masuda, 29, has been missing ever since Sept. 3, says the LAPD blog. The 29-year-old photog was to visit L.A. from Sept. 1 to Sept. 4, but his van - photo gear inside - was found on the 405 near Montana with some of his gear still in it, half an hour after he used a call box to report he had run out of gas. Seen him? Call Missing Persons Unit Detectives Lydia Dillard or Bruce Kuehl at 213-485-5381 ...
- The elaborate paint job on celebrity renta-pachyderm Tai was scrubbed off on the order of Animal Control head Ed Boks, who shamefacedly admitted that he was the guy who actually issued the permit in the first place for graffiti supuhstaw Banksy to park a live elephant at his heavily-hyped "Barely Legal" warehouse show downtown over the weekend. Net result: clean elephant, even more hype for Banksy, huge ding in Boks' reputation.
- Also missing, 74,502 acres of brush (so far) in the Day Fire, which has been chewing up large hunks of Angeles and Los Padres National Forests. Last seen gracing the slopes between Pyramid Lake and Ojai, the X-bajillion manzanita, sage and rosemary were spotted more recently in a much-transmogrified state, contributing to some impressive, thermonuclear-looking sunsets. Fire geeks will be interested in viewing footage of firefighters doing their best to improve the 15% containment level, put together by the Ventura County Star and offered here via YouTube:
- And finally - in body, but not in spirit nor posting presence, Tony Pierce has been missing from Los Angeles. Actually, he's been hanging in Chicago with a lot of Cubs fans.
