Out of town on business yesterday - let's see, what'd I miss?
The latest LAPD arrest video to surface shows a now-resigned Venice LAPD officer pepper-spraying handcuffed transient Benjamin Barker in the back of a squad car in 2005.
As expected, its release provoked the customary question-asking and finger-pointing by citizens, and grim promises from the brass to review the pepper spray policy.
On the LAPD Blog, Chief Bratton points out at length that the DA exonerated the officers of any criminal wrongdoing, that Barker was spitting in and vandalizing the squad car, and that the whole thing is under lengthy investigation ...
Meanwhile, William Cardenas, whose face was videotaped last August being punched repeatedly by the LAPD officer arresting him, apparently told his side on KCAL-9.
I'm guessing some sicko producer out there is probably already rubbing his hands together with glee over the thought of how much money he could make selling a "Cops Gone Wild" DVD compilation of the ever-growing number of violent arrest videos.
