Jason Schmidt Is Happy To Be Here.

Jason Schmidt apparently hasn’t bought into this whole “Dodger thing” yet.

The Dodgers signed Schmidt, an ace pitcher, this past offseason to a forty-seven million dollar contract and right out of the gate, Schmidt delivered, helping the team win its first game of the season last night after going 0-2 to start the year.

But in an interview I heard on KFWB this morning he made the comment that it felt good to “help this team get its first win.” Jason, where’s the first-person voice? You know, “we”? “us”? Schmidt made it sound like he was a consultant hired by team owner Frank McCourt and not a real member of the club.

That’s the problem with free agency these days—players have become hired guns and we’re simply rooting for uniforms now. The longest tenured Dodger right now is bench player Olmedo Saenz who has been with the team since 2004. That’s really kind of sad when you think about it.
